After hard days for our sailor, the World Championship ends in the best way possible, with Ascen as runner-up of the World Championship of Europe Class.
The last day of the Championship was a crucial moment for her, because he could finish between the second and fifth place. After checking the weather forecast the previous night, where the wind appeared between 12 and 15 knots, her nerves soothed a little. Unfortunately, it didn’t happen. It was raining all the night and the day started without wind and cloudy. The referees considered to wait till the wind came, but all the people went to the water, our sailors included.
They started the race with 0 knots, a big black cloud and a white mass at the end of the race course. After arriving to the race course on tow, in 2 minutes it started to pour with rain and came a strong wind. But after a storm comes a calm, and it came. After one hour waiting in the storm, the sun appeared (at times) and the wind left them. Anyway, the referees decided to start the race. There was no wind, 3-4 knots and changes of wind with more of 30º, with different changes of wind pressure in all the area.
You was sailing without wind while close to you, only 5 metres away, a boat could be sailing with a different wind. It was a lottery. It was a matter of luck.
After a bad start, Ascen forgot everything and she started to get back in. With a perfect manoeuvre, leaving her closer competitors behind, she achieved a place that gave her the silver medal, after the Danish sailor.
All work gives results and, of course, this time couldn’t be different.
Now, two days to relax and again to the hard training with the Nacra, because we have to work for the next dream “Río 2016”.
