The Club Nautico Santa Pola last weekend organised the Regional Optimist Cup and Youth Laser 4.7 A. Simon Mirada, NC Alicante Costa Blanca, and Mara Garcia, RCN Torrevieja, were the best in the Optimist class.
Good participation in the CN Santa Pola, which bay was filled with sails during the past weekend to compete for a regional crown in the Youth categories of Optimist and Laser 4.7 A in the May 10 Memorial Regatta.
The weather was spotty, good competition throughout the Saturday, while Sunday the wind blew strong and forced to suspend part of the day.
Over 75 sailors gathered at the Optimist Regional Cup, which tournament was sailed in groups. There was a total of 4 tests. Francisco Navarro was third on the podium and the female Provincial Cup went to Mara Garcia.
Competitive edge also among the Laser 4.7 A, that sailed a total of 6 tests. Vicente Ortuño took a fifth place with 22 points.
The May 10 Memorial pays tribute to the memory of three people who suffered a fatal accident when they competed in a race 19 years ago.
Since then, the Club Nautico Santa Pola dedicated this race to keep this memory alive and as a contribution to sailing promotion, and for all who work every day as well as for the merits of the sailors. And since then, Ruiz Macia’s parents, Manolo Ruiz, who is one of their children in the accident, share this trophy with all participants. On this occasion, the Sailing Federation of Valencia thanked the family for their efforts and dedication with a plaque.
