4th and 5th June the Alicante Yacht Club Costa Blanca hosted the Valencia Regional Optimist Team Championship involving eleven teams. The RCN Torrevieja, (Champion for the past three years) had her title at stake in an encounter in which emotion was guaranteed. In this competition the sailors did not compete individually, but as a team. The competition system is based on team versus team. It’s a variant of the match race system (boat against boat), but then in teams.
On Saturday 9 of the 10 initial clashes were planned for the first time, with a score of 7 wins for the RCNT and Valencia, respectively, both ranking first.
The competition resumed Sunday with another victory by the RCNT on Valencia, breaking a tie and leading the final between 6 ranked teams.
Torrevieja won her five races with absolute authority by putting forward the supremacy of our club, which produced the title for the fourth consecutive year, demonstrating the fantastic work the technical team has been doing for years. The team consists of our sailors Ramon Ortega, David Azurmendi, Mara García, José M ª Wandosell and Joaquín Gálvez. The second place went to the Club Náutico Alicante Costa Blanca and the RCN Valencia became third.
This victory qualifies our club to participate in the Spanish Championship to be held in Hondarribia in the month of August.
