Tania Samper became the winner of the Regional Women-B Optimist Cup in the CN Alicante Costa Blanca. José M ª Wandossell took a second in the overall standings. Both sailors are members of the Youth sailing competition team of the Real Club Náutico Torrevieja.
The Autonomous Optimist B-Cup was held in the Alicante (Costa Blanca) waters, and included 12 yacht clubs across the Region and more than 120 sailors.
During the competition on Saturday, the sailing conditions were ideal at the beginning of the day: East winds of 14 knots steady with a two-foot wave. The first round of the Optimist B ended with a Valencia victory for Nacho Balaguer, while Enrique Luján of RCN Gandia became second and José M ª Wandosell third.
The Committee’s intentions and fleet to complete the program were thwarted by the weather. The wind began to produce strange and strong showers which brushed past the race course forced the fleet to land and stay away from the rest of the day’s tests.
On Sunday, the wind appeared shifty, loose and unstable. The Committee was forced to do their utmost to reset the course each race. With a 7 knot easterly direction, there was the first start of the day , and with much effort all classes managed to complete two more tests.
The partial victories of the day went to Nacho Balaguer, and Carlos Balaguerboth from del RCN Valencia.
The sum of the results offered no doubt. With four points, Nacho Balaguer took a victory for Valencia in the CN Alicante and the Cup of course as champion of the Optimist B. On points for the second place, José M ª Wandosell, the RCN Torrevieja, thanks to his first place finish in the third set, tied with Julio Sempere, of the RCN Denia, both with 9 points.
In the Women’s class, the Regional Cup went to Tania Samper, of the RCN Torrevieja.
